  • Geek & Gorgeous – The Hungarian The Ordinary (but better)

I have been planning to write a blog post for a long time about one of my favorite Hungarian brands, Geek & Gorgeous. There are three products that, since I first tried them, have become a staple of my morning and evening routine. #cannotlivewithoutthem

You’ve probably already seen me raving about them in my Instagram stories because sometimes I show you what I use in my actual routine. But if not, now I give you a closer look at my 3 favorites: what they are good for, when and how I use them, and so on. 😊

WHY I LOVE THEM SO MUCH

    • High active ingredients + they do what they claim to do

Each product contains top active ingredients in high quantities and does exactly what they promise. Zero side effects. I have never been disappointed in any of them.

My sensitive skin, prone to rosacea and acne, is particularly grateful for this.

    • They are free from perfume and other unnecesary chemicals

They are real ‘clean beauty’ products for me because they only have the most important ingredients, no “fillings”. They do not contain fragrances (no essential oils!), parabens, dyes and other unnecessary chemicals. I especially like that none of them have a scent (once you get on the scent-free products, sooner or later, every “smell” will start to bother you. #truestory).

    • They are cruelty-free

    Hurray Hurray!

    • They have a pleasant, light texture

Each product has a gel/water-like, lightweight texture that can be layered on top of each other, and even then won’t feel too much. My skin can’t stand heavy creams, it prefers layering, so that’s a big plus for me.

    • They are in dark glass

Dark glass protects the active ingredients from damage , it is also better for the environment and even more aesthetically pleasing for the eye. I like holding them in my hands.

    • Wallet-friendly

I don’t think a good skincare routine should consist of costly creams and serums (beyond one point I’m not willing to pay anymore). And, as I said earlier, it’s not true that if something is expensive, it’s certainly better as well. There is no such connection, don’t be fooled! These products are superb and absolutely affordable.

    • Hungarian brand

Last but not least, if you choose Geek & Gorgeousyou are supporting a Hungarian company. Okay, okay, The Ordinary is great, too, but I prefer to support the dream of a young Hungarian woman who – I know – is working on formulas for months. Judit, by the way, who is the founder of G&G, and also Krémmánia, has an incredible knowledge of skin care. I hope we will thank her for many more great products! 🙂

MY FAVORITE GEEK & GORGEOUS 101 SERUMS

    C-Glow – 15% Vitamin C Serum

Perhaps this is what I have preached most to you so far. Which is no coincidence because I’m addicted to it. If I miss a few days, I can see that on my skin. It is more grey, less glowy and overall just looks less heathy. I don’t know how many bottles I have purchased already, maybe 4 or 5 for sure. 😊

    What’s in it?

15% Pure Vitamin C , 0.5% Ferulic Acid and Vitamin E – the latter two are antioxidants to enhance the effect of Vitamin C.

Ingredients: Water, Ascorbic Acid, Ethoxydiglycol, Peg / Ppg / Polybutylene Glycol-8/5/3 Glycerin, Ferulic Acid, Tocopherol, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Hydroxide

How do I use it?I apply it in the morning after my honey cleansing and a moisturizing mist. Then comes another serum and maybe a moisturizer + SPF of course. It’s good to use in the morning because vitamin C strengthens the effect of the sunscreen and protects the skin from the cell-damaging free radicals we meet during the day.

    Why I love it?

I can see its effect clearly and immediately: it brightens and refreshes my complexion and also reduces the appearance of pigmentation spots. I apply it with the awareness that it also enhances collagen production, which at the age of 36, I need VERY much. I was stinging a bit the first two times when I started to use it, but my skin has gotten used to it, and since then I haven’t experienced anything like that. But if this is the case, you can add a few drops to your favorite serum.

Who do I recommend it to?

To everyone. Above 25, I would definitely recommend to have it in your basic routine as it helps to prevent wrinkles (and prevention is always better than going for thousands of facials and treatments later for a lot of money). I also suggest using a Vitamin C serum if you are a coffee drinker because it is great for brightening dull skin that coffee causes!

aPAD – 20% Azelaic Acid Derivative Serum

It’s also a piece that I can’t miss from my routine because I just see how much better my skin is when I use it.

    What’s in it?

A new generation of azelaic acid derivativePAD (Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate), which lighter than pure azelaic acid, hence works well in aqueous formulas, so those with combination or oily skin can give it a try too. Azelaic acid can actually also found in wheat, barley and rye. Although t’s name is ‘acid’, it has no real exfoliating effect, but does many other great stuff to your skin. This serum also contains glycerin and anti-inflammatory, soothingwound healing allantoin as well.

Ingredients: Water, Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate, Propanediol, Glycerin, Methyl-Gluceth 20, Allantoin, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Xanthan Gum, Citric Acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol.

    How do I use it?

I use it in the eveningAfter cleansing and misting, this is the first serum I apply. During summer, I did not use anything else after (I must add, I do not have dry skin, but combination). Sometimes I do a gua shas facial massage while applying for more effective absorption, other times I just gently pat it in.

    Why I love it?

It is truely an all -in- one product. I love that it not only soothes redness, rosacea and reduces blemishes but balances oil production as wll. Oh, and it speeds up the healing of pimples too. It has a lovely gel-like light texture yet still, it is sooooo moisturizing! My skin is plumper, brighter and softer after every use. #lovelovelove

Who do I recommend it to?

Mostly people with combination skin and/or prone to breakouts and/or redness + sensitivity. Those with a lot of pigmentation marks would love it too!

    B-Bomb – 10% Niacinamide Serum

I tried the very similar Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% serum from The Ordinary but to be honest, I like this Greek&Gorgeous version much more. Somehow it is gentler plust it has never broke me out. (When I applied a little more of The Ordinary, the next day I always woke up with a new zit.)

    What’s in it?

High content (10%) of Niacinamide (ie Vitamin B3), which fights against acne, pigmentation and wrinkles at the same time. There is also some Zinc PCA in it, which is great against breakouts too (just as taking zinc supplements from the inside), regulates sebum production and hydrates the skin. You can find an amino acid called Sarcosine in the ingerdient list, which is a miracle weapon against large pores and pigment spots.

Ingredients: Aqua (water), Niacinamide, Butylene Glycol, Glycereth-26, Zinc PCA, Sarcosine, Propanediol, Pentylene Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol

    How do I use it?

In my evening routine I sometimes switch azelaic acid to this serum. So I only use it about twice a week. I feel like my skin doesn’t need more at the moment. (Always pay attention to your own skin, what it likes, what it doesn’t! What it might be crying for.)

    Why I love it?

I wanted to use niacinamide because it is one of the most potent active ingredients against acne, but The Ordinary didn’t really work for me in the long run, so I switched to B-bomb. And I am glad I did, bc I like it much more in texture and effect as well. This summer, my T-zone did not get as oily as it used to, and in general it keeps my acne under control (doesn’t cause any new ones).

Who do I recommend it to?

To anyone with oily, acneic or pigmented skin.

Have you ever tried any of these Geek & Gorgeous products? Or anything else from the brand? Let me know here or on Instagram, I am dying to hear your opinion! 😊

Wishing you great skin & a lovely day/evening!

    Peonilla

    xx
